Carla Sargent to Kappa Kappa Gamma Chapters Handwritten Letter, May 23, 1898

Grand Secretary Carla Sargent sends a handwritten letter to the chapters regarding the Beta Beta chapter charter withdrawal vote. It is signed May 23, 1898 but also has a note of June 17. It concerns the vote on 'limiting the membership of Beta Beta to those who shall have been initiated at the close of the present academic year.' The chapter vote is called simultaneously as the Grand Council vote. This version of the letter includes the four reasons for the motion, number three being 'lack of culture and refinement among the women of the college and town.' A typed partial version of the letter is available. The letter is available in a Beta Beta chapter pamphlet as well. Related materials are available.
