Sarah Blanding Photograph 4, c. December 1946


Sarah Blanding, who became the first female president of Vassar College, poses for a photograph. Blanding also served on Owen D. Young's New York state commission to make recommendations for a state university, which foreshadowed the creation of the State University of New York System, and the National Commission on Higher Education as an appointee of President Truman. This photograph was featured in the December 1946 issue of The Key.
