McGill, Rose

Beta Psi

Initiation Date

Rose McGill joined thee Beta Psi chapter of Kappa Kappa Gamma at the University of Toronto in 1920, but was forced to withdraw after her first year due to financial difficulties. Despite her withdrawal, McGill's ties to KKG remained strong and it was a blow to the chapter when she suffered an attack of pleurisy that developed into tuberculosis. In the early years of her illness, chapter members and their families helped McGill, who was an orphan, financially, but it was only through the prompt action of the Fraternity in establishing the Rose McGill fund during the 1922 convention that adequate money was available to provide for McGill until her death in 1927. After her death, the Rose McGill Fund continued, and continues to this day, as a way to help Fraternity members in need of emergency financial assistance.
