May was the only Kappa to serve three terms as president. A strong believer in history as the foundation for Kappa ideals, she researched and edited the History of Kappa Kappa Gamma Fraternity, 1870-1930. Among the many positions she held, May served as Grand Treasurer and Secretary. After her first term in 1904, she was appointed Fraternity Historian, but resigned in 1905 and spent 14 years away from Fraternity work. But in 1918, she returned as Custodian of the Badge, and was unanimously elected National President at the 1920 Convention.
