Before Edith was elected Grand President, she served as Grand Registrar and Grand Secretary. Dedicated to her office, she took a leave of absence from teaching high school chemistry, and spent much of her time visiting chapters. During these visits, Edith noted that there were many problems with chapter house rules, scholarship, and Panhellenic arrangements, attributing these problems, not to inability of the individual, but to personal and social problems. She therefore created a system in which failing Kappas were contacted by sympathetic committee members.
