Chapter Report for 1886-87: Upsilon - Northwestern University

The Key, Vol. 4, No. 4, September 1887


Upsilon has 13 active members, 21 associate members, 6 alumnae, 2 seniors, and 4 initiates from this year. Northwestern University has 220 students and 9 fraternities. The year's literary work included readings, reviews, essays and criticisms of Dickens, George Eliot, Washington Irving, Lowell, and Robert Browning. In addition, Upsilon conducted interesting debates on current topics and meetings included the regular reading of the constitution and minutes of the last convention. At commencement, a member of Upsilon received the prestigious Kirk prize for her masterly oration on Savonarola, and 24 students were graduated from Northwestern University. One of the two senior Kappas who graduated this year is the only lady who has ever taken honors in Greek in the university's history.
