In this poem, the author defends the philosopher Epicurus against his critics. Although critics may call his philosophy frivolous and amoral, the author "deem[s] the censure wrong," for she believes that Epicurus was a simple soul who gave his time and labor to a cause he believed in. Even though he was wrong to prioritize strength and youth over faith and truth, he deserves praise for his labor.
