Fraternity News, June 1883

The Golden Key, Vol. 1, No. 4, June 1883

Fraternity News lists the fraternity allegiance of important politicians, academics, the establishment of new chapters (and alumnae chapters) by other fraternities, and rumored new fraternity publications such as the Chi Psi Purple and Gold. Additionally, it reports that Ohio Wesleyan University has held its own Panhellenic council, and that new Kappa initiate Kate Shelly is a hero who saved an express train. The Greek body as a whole now equals the Masonic order in numbers, and "surpasses" the Masonic order in average member social and academic standing. The 51st Annual Alpha Delta Phi Convention was held in Cleveland on May 16-19, 1883. The Phi Delta Theta Scroll reports that the "presiding chapter system" is outdated, and many fraternities have transferred power to Alumnae boards.
