Lucia Heaton to Ledyard Hale Typed Letter and Partial Protest, August 31, 1898

Beta Beta chapter's Lucia Heaton writes a long letter to District Attorney Ledyard Hale, providing a detailed account of the 1898 National Convention events. Heaton recounts the election of officers, and the conversations and actions of the Grand Council in the Beta Beta chapter charter withdrawal controversy. Heaton conveys to her legal counsel Hale her uncertainty whether the council served as a judicial body, or if their chapter had a hearing. Enclosed was a partial copy of "Before the Grand Council of Kappa Kappa Gamma in the matter of the withdrawal of the charter of Beta Beta chapter," one of a set of three August 25, 1898 protests by the Beta Beta chapter at the National Convention. This 'protest' excerpt is numbered II-IX of I-IX. This is a typed version of the letter. A handwritten version of the letter is available.
