Raleigh Tavern and Carriage Photograph

A horse and carriage stand in front of the Raleigh Tavern in Richmond, Virginia. A center of social and political activity in 18th century Williamsburg, the Raleigh tavern was the site where, on December 5, 1776, students of the College of William and Mary founded the Phi Beta Kappa society. A post-convention tour following the 1952 National Convention visited Williamsburg. This photograph was featured on page 64 of the February 1952 issue of The Key in a section providing a pictorial tour of Virginia prior to the 1952 National Convention held in Hot Springs, Virginia.
