White Ol Mimbres Valley Embossing, 1984

Inspired by western Native American art, pottery, basketry, and silversmithing. Evalyn Hickman created this embossing on handmade paper. It is one in a set of six, specially made for Kappa Kappa Gamma's 1984 National Convention. This piece depicts a creature from the Mimbres Culture, a prehistoric people who lived in the area around 200-1000 CE. Their pottery typically depicted abstract animals, but also spirits and people.
