Kachina Feather Embossing, 1984

Inspired by western Native American art, pottery, basketry, and silversmithing. Evalyn Hickman created this embossing on handmade paper. It is one in a set of six, specially made for Kappa Kappa Gamma's 1984 National Convention. This piece depicts a feather from a Kachina doll, used among the Hopi people of northeastern Arizona to teach young women and girls about the spirit world.
