Ware's dress was a black silk "calling gown" which had belonger to her Aunt Ruth, Mrs. Justin S. Morrill. Mrs. Morrill was the wife of Senator Morrill, of Vermont, who authored the Morrill Act of Congress to establish land grant colleges in the U.S.
