Rheva Shryock and Alvan Duerr as Cotton Ball King and Queen Photograph, July 1, 1938

Rheva Shryock and Alvan Duerr, from Delta Tau Delta Fraternity, serve as king and queen of the Cotton Ball during the 1938 National Convention. They sit upon thrones wearing crowns and holding scepters. Alvan Duer was a guest speaker at the 1938 Convention, who believed that Fraternities were the perfect tool for education. It was the first time he had ever addressed a women's fraternity at convention, as well as the first time a man had been invited by Kappa as an honored guest. An article featuring Alvan Duerr was published in The Key, October 1938, on page 272.
