Ceremony at the Kappa Shrine Photograph, June 23-30, 1948

Kappas wear formal white attire outside the Kappa Shrine in Trail Creek Valley, following the 1948 National Convention Memorial Service. Charlotte Barrell Ware was specially honored, as she had broken ground at the Kappa Shrine in 1940. Evelyn Wight Allen, ritualist, led the ceremony. Kappas placed flowers on the shrine in memory of Della Lawrence Burt, marshal for the 1940 convention, and Jonathan Dunca, assistant manager of Sun Valley at that time, who lost his life overseas during World War II. This photograph was featured on page 244 of The Key, October 1948.
