Dr. Mary Sweeney was the final banquet speaker at the 1952 National Convention. Dr. Sweeney, a former professor at the University of Kentucky and former assistant director of the Merrill Palmer School in Detroit, Michigan, has had wide experience in her field of nutrition and physiological chemistry. During World War I, she acted as chairman of home economics in the United States Food Administration under Herbert Hoover. She has travelled both in the United States and abroad conducting workshops and working with foreign governments in India, China, France, Spain, and Italy as a consultant.
