One Summer


In this woeful story told in five parts, two college women, Margaret and Alle, holiday in a lovely valley. They are visited by two men, one of whom is a melancholic violinist named Mr. James. Alle falls madly in love with Mr. James, but unbenounced to her, Mr. James has fallen madly in love with Margaret. Mr. James asks Margaret for her hand in marriage, but Margret turns him down. Heartbroken, he turns to Alle for advice and in doing so breaks her heart too. In the middle of a thunderstorm, Alle looks up from her crying to see that Mr. James has taken his own life and lies on the pavement below.
