The Convention

The Key's five-page report of the 1886 National Convention provides a summary of the convention events and the business of the Eighth National Convention, held in Akron, Ohio on August 26-28. Eighteen out of twenty chapters attended the convention, with 60 people in daily attendance, including visiting members. In meetings, the 18 representatives gave chapter reports, and the charter was returned from Pi chapter due to fraternity opposition and lack of good material among students. The Golden Key was officially made a quarterly publication and responsibility for its publication was placed in the hands of Phi chapter. Grand Council elections resulted in a continuation of Charlotte Barrell's term as Grand President, with a new Grand Secretary, Treasurer, and Marshal. Business was interspersed with literary performances, receptions, and socials. Final toasts and addresses were given at the final banquet on Friday, hosted at the Hotel Buchtel.
