In honor of the Kappa Kappa Gamma Centennial, the Key provides a story from one of it's 19th Century editions. The real-life heroism of Kate Shelley is told through excerpts of the original Key article which reported the news of her heroic deeds. Shelly was able to fight through thunder and wind to deliver a message to the town that the tracks ahead of an oncoming train had been swept away. The message saved the passengers of the train, who would otherwise have fallen into a ravine. Shelly was honored as a hero by the state of Iowa, and still stands as an example to other Kappa women. The article includes an image of a souvenir postcard that includes Kate Shelley's photograph.
