This article provides a brief history of new member training, culminating in the origins of a fresh new member manual, which was begun in 1970. Catherine Schroeder Graf and the rest of the Publication Committee surveyed chapters to determine what was most needed in the program. The result is a notebook that can be more readily updated and that includes photographs, a glossary, and index.
