The Spring 1971 Key Cover features a photograph of Eleanor McKinnel Smith, Wichita Alumnae Association president, presenting a $500 scholarship to Mrs. Diane L. Kimmel, widow of Wichita State football player, Mal Kimmel. The scholarship was given in memory of Helen Kimmel Wilson of Kappa, wife of Wichita State football coach Ben Wilson, both of whom died in a tragic plane crash which killed several members of the Wichita State University football team.
