The Convention of 1884

This summary of the 1884 National Convention details the events of the convention, election results, and results of the meetings. The convention was held from Wednesday August 27th through Friday August 29, 1884 in Canton, New York. 13 out of 24 chapters were represented, although three chapters had their charters withdrawn: Alpha and Rho due to faculty opposition, and Nu due to the "low educational standard of her college." Notably, new restrictions were placed on the admission of honorary members, requirements for individual and chapter membership were made more severe, and fraternity publications were organized, with the publication of the songbook made the responsibility of Beta chapter.
