Philosophy of Education Document

This bound manuscript, possibly a speech or essay, discusses passages from the New Testament about teaching, including Timothy 3:2 Apt to Teach, and Matthew 28:20. Founded in 1853 by Scotch-Irish Presbyterians, Monmouth College was intended to educate young people interested in joining the clergy, with an emphasis on liberal arts. On page 6, the author begs the question, "But what is Education?" Then, on page 26, they assert that many students attend college to pursue their fortune, rather than an education. It is clear that the author was worried about the state of education and religion for future generations.
